Let's recap: Aside from commuting to work (about 6 miles, 4 days per week), my training consisted of the following 6-week regimen:
| Weeks 1-3: | One long ride, going basically as long as possible; |
| Week 4: | Two shorter, more intense rides, riding with someone in better shape than I; |
| Week 5: | Ooops! No riding to speak of: I traded the hours that I scheduled in the saddle for hours in my office chair; Instead of Gatorade and energy bars, I opted for extra blue cheese on my chicken wings. |
| Week 6: | Two 3-hour rides, paying for my infidelity to training during week 5 and convincing myself that I'd be OK in spite of it. |
